Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah clarifies: Gruha Jyoti scheme not responsible for power tariff hike

The Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, has clarified that the Gruha Jyoti scheme is not responsible for the recent hike in power tariffs. The scheme was launched by the state government to provide free electricity to households consuming less than 100 units per month.

There have been concerns raised by various quarters that the scheme has led to an increase in power tariffs for other consumers. However, the Chief Minister has stated that this is not the case and that the scheme has actually helped reduce the burden on the state's power grid.

"The Gruha Jyoti scheme has been a success and has helped many households in the state. It has not led to any increase in power tariffs for other consumers. In fact, it has helped reduce the burden on our power grid," said Siddaramaiah.

The Chief Minister also added that the state government is committed to providing affordable and reliable power supply to all its citizens. He urged people to use electricity judiciously and conserve energy wherever possible.

The Gruha Jyoti scheme was launched in September 2017 and has benefited over 25 lakh households in the state. Under the scheme, eligible households are provided with free electricity up to 100 units per month. The scheme has been widely appreciated by the public and has helped reduce the financial burden on low-income families.

However, there have been concerns raised by some sections that the scheme has led to an increase in power tariffs for other consumers. This has been refuted by the Chief Minister who has assured the public that the scheme has not had any adverse impact on power tariffs.

The state government has also taken several measures to improve the power infrastructure in the state. This includes the setting up of new power plants, upgrading existing ones and improving transmission and distribution networks.

The government has also encouraged the use of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power. The state has set a target of generating 20,000 MW of solar power by 2021 and has taken several steps to promote the use of solar energy among households and businesses.

Overall, the state government's efforts to provide affordable and reliable power supply to its citizens have been widely appreciated. The Gruha Jyoti scheme has been a major success and has helped reduce the financial burden on low-income families. The government's focus on renewable energy sources is also commendable and will help reduce the state's dependence on fossil fuels.

In conclusion, the Chief Minister's clarification that the Gruha Jyoti scheme is not responsible for the recent hike in power tariffs should put to rest any concerns raised by various quarters. The scheme has been a major success and has benefited over 25 lakh households in the state. The state government's commitment to providing affordable and reliable power supply to all its citizens is laudable and should be supported by all.
